McDonald’s Hacked – Attackers Stole Personal Information of Customers and Employees

McDonald’s, one of the largest global food chains said that they break into their systems and stole the personal information of customers and employees in the U.S., South Korea, and Taiwan locations.

McDonald’s corporation founded in 1940, and servers more than 69 million customers daily, the company has employees of around 1.7 million.

The breach came to light after the company hired external security consultants to investigate the intrusion activity on an internal security system.

What are the Data Accessed

In a message to U.S. employees, the company said that attackers accessed business contact information, restaurant seating capacity, contact details of franchisees, and footages of play areas. The breach was first reported by Wall Street Journal.

Following are the personal information accessed from McDonald’s customers in South Korea and Taiwan;

• Names
• Emails
• Phone numbers
• Addresses

The company said that the “number of customer documents exposed in the incident was small, and the breach did not impact customers payment card details”.

“While we were able to close off access quickly after identification, our investigation has determined that a small number of files were accessed, some of which contained personal data,” McDonald’s said.

“No customer payment information was contained in these files. In the coming days, a few additional markets will take steps to address files that contained employee personal data. “

McDonald’s said that its divisions in South Korea and Taiwan notified regulators in Asia of the breach Friday and that they would contact customers and employees.

The company confirms that the breach not interrupted any operations, “in the coming days, a few additional markets will take steps to address files that contained employee personal data.”

In today’s era, digital information and data, in general, hold the most importance, this is the second incident after the Electronic Arts (EA) breach in which hackers Stolen Over 750 GB of Data Including Source Code and Internal Tools.
