WhatsApp has recently introduced an extra layer of protection to safeguard your chats. As per their announcement, this new feature will make it more difficult for someone to find your chats even if they have access to your phone. This added security measure will help keep your conversations safe and private.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced locked chats to allow users to hide sensitive conversations. An additional layer of protection is being added to these chats to make them even more secure and difficult to access if someone gains unauthorized access to your phone.

An update to the chat feature allows you to safeguard your privacy by hiding your locked chats behind a password different from the one used to unlock your phone. This ensures that your confidential chats remain secure and not easily accessible to anyone with access to your phone.

If you want to secure your chats, you can set a secret code that includes letters, numbers, special characters, and emojis. Once you have locked the chats folder, it will be hidden from your chat list and can only be accessed by typing in the secret code in the search bar. This way, your conversations can remain private and secure.

Now you can set your locked chats to only appear when you type the secret code in the search bar, so no one can “unintentionally” discover your most private conversations,” Mark Zuckerberg said today on his WhatsApp Channel.

It’s worth noting that WhatsApp has made it easier to lock a chat without navigating individual chat settings. Instead, you can long-press on the chat you wish to close.

“We’re so happy our community has been loving Chat Lock, and hope that secret code makes it even more useful to them,” reads a WhatsApp blog post.

The secret code feature is being rolled out today and will become available worldwide within the next few months.
