Government of Canada Bans WeChat and Kaspersky Apps

The minister of Canada, Anita Anand, banned the WeChat and Kaspersky suite of applications on government mobile devices.

The platform also offers video conferencing capabilities, mobile payment options, and exciting video games. Additionally, users can share photos and videos with ease and even share their location.

WeChat and Kaspersky Banned

Mobile applications such as WeChat and Kaspersky employ data collection methods that grant them complete access to the contents of the device on which they are installed, reads the Government of Canada notice.

Effective October 30, 2023, the WeChat and Kaspersky applications will be removed from government-issued mobile devices. Users of these devices will be unable to download the apps in the future.
