Washington Hotel Japan Suffers Ransomware Attack
The hotel confirmed that several of its servers were compromised in a ransomware attack, disrupting parts of its internal network and triggering an ongoing investigation into possible data exposure.
According to the Washington Hotel Corporation official statement, the incident was first detected around 10:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, when unauthorized access was identified on multiple servers.
The intrusion was soon confirmed to be a ransomware infection, prompting the hotel chain to immediately disconnect external network access to contain the breach.
A dedicated task force, along with external cybersecurity experts, has been assembled to determine the root cause and evaluate the extent of the impact.
The firm also notified local law enforcement and is cooperating with authorities to trace the source of the attack.
Initial analysis confirmed unauthorized access to various business-related data. However, the investigation into whether any customer or operational data was exfiltrated is still ongoing.
The hotel assured that customer membership information for its “Washington Net” loyalty program remains unaffected, as it is hosted by a third-party system not targeted in the incident.
While some hotels experienced temporary issues with credit card terminals, the company reported no major disruption to its daily business operations, and guest services remain functional.
Restoration efforts are now underway to bring the affected systems back online in a controlled manner. Washington Hotel stated that it is also evaluating the potential impact of this incident on its business performance.
Further announcements will be made as the investigation progresses and more details become available. The company extended apologies to customers and business partners for the inconvenience and concern caused by the breach.
