Christopher Krebs, head of The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) at theDepartment of Homeland Security has been fired by President Trump on November 17. He had successfully helped the state and local election offices to protect their systems and refute any claims of voter fraud.
Trump tweeted saying that the latest statement by Chris Krebs defending the integrity of the election consisted of several inaccuracies and as a result of this he was relieving Chris Krebs from his position with immediate effect.
Krebs joined DHS in March 2017 as a senior counselor to then-Secretary John Kelly. In June 2018, he was confirmed as undersecretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate, which was rebranded as CISA in November 2018.
CISA works with state and local officials who conduct election in US and work with companies who supply voting machines to address cybersecurity and other threats.
Kreb stated recently that “there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.”
Earlier Reuters reported that Christopher Krebs has told associates he expects to be fired by the White House.
Trump rose against this statement as can be seen in his below Tweet
Krebs was not given notice of Trump’s plan to fire him, he learns of his dismissal via the above tweet from Trump and responds in a dignified manner with a tweet of his own.
CISA Deputy Director Matt Travis has resigned following the removal of Christopher Krebs, after it was made clear to him that he would not be handed over the reins at CISA.
“Chris Krebs should be commended for his service in protecting our elections, not fired for telling the truth,” said Biden spokesperson Michael Gwin.
CISA Executive Director Brandon Wales expected to take over as the acting head of the agency, according to Reuters report.
