Russian Government Websites Hacked in a Supply Chain Attack

The line of control has been under too much pressure after what happened between Ukraine and Russia. The two countries were being attacked everyday by every means. Cyber attacks were also part of the attacks which targeted both the countries. Many hacking activities have been happening lately to Ukraine as well as Russia.

Recently, the Roskomnadzor reported that there was a disruption in one of the government websites. The particular website was using a widget service that was vulnerable. Hackers leveraged this widget service to take control of the website. However, the website was restored in just an hour.

The press service said,” The websites of state agencies are under serious protection and round-the-clock monitoring by cybersecurity teams. It is difficult to compromise these websites directly, so hackers attack resources through external services and thus gain access to demonstrate incorrect content.”

They also said that information relating to users’ personal data were not affected. Earlier reports revealed that hackers have hacked the websites of the Federal Penitentiary Service, the Federal Bailiff Service, the Federal Antimonopoly Service, the Culture Ministry, the Energy Ministry, the Federal; State Statistics Service and many other agencies.

The Digital Development Ministry said,After hacking the widget, hackers were able to post and publish incorrect content on the websites. The incident was promptly localized”.
