Rhysida Ransomware Allegedly Claims Breach of Axis Health Systems

Axis Health System, a nonprofit healthcare organization based in Colorado, has reportedly fallen victim to a cyberattack by the notorious Rhysida ransomware group.

Established in 1960, Axis Health System provides integrated healthcare services to residents of Southwest and Western Colorado, offering a range of medical, behavioral, and dental care services.

The Rhysida ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the breach, threatening to publish sensitive data within six to seven days unless their demands are met.

The group is known for targeting healthcare organizations and employing “double extortion” tactics: encrypting data and threatening to release it unless a ransom is paid. In this instance, they are demanding 25 Bitcoin, approximately $1.5 million, as payment for the stolen data.

This attack follows a pattern of similar incidents involving Rhysida. The group has previously targeted other healthcare providers such as Bayhealth and Community Care Alliance, stealing personal information and demanding hefty ransoms.

Their operations have expanded beyond healthcare, affecting various sectors, including education and government.
