Microsoft Teams Down – Users Face Messaging Delays and Service Disruptions Worldwide

In a major disruption to remote work and collaboration, Microsoft Teams experienced a significant outage on Friday, affecting thousands of users across multiple regions. Reports of messaging delays, failed message deliveries, and issues with other service functions began surging around 2:30 PM ET (7:30 PM GMT), bringing productivity to a halt for businesses and individuals reliant on the platform.

Microsoft’s official status account acknowledged the problem shortly after, stating: “We’re investigating an issue in which users may be experiencing Microsoft Teams messaging delays and problems with other service functions.

“We’re observing recovery in our telemetry and are continuing our analysis to identify the impacted scenarios and determine the cause of this issue.” The company directed admins to check the Microsoft 365 admin center under incident ID TM1200517 for further updates.

Outage tracking sites like DownDetector recorded a sharp spike in user reports, with complaints peaking in the thousands within hours of the incident’s onset.

Users from the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia described frustrations with delayed messages, inability to send files, and general latency in the app. One user on X (formerly Twitter) noted, “Definitely have multiple users in different regions experiencing noticeable latency in Teams,” highlighting the global scale of the problem.

The outage extended beyond Teams in some cases, with reports of impacts on Microsoft 365 services like Outlook and OneDrive, particularly in Asia where work was “brought to a halt.” This follows a pattern of recent disruptions for Microsoft cloud services, including a similar incident just days ago affecting Japan and China.

Businesses and remote workers took to social media to vent their frustrations. “Microsoft Teams just took a coffee break. Teams, 365, Azure and more hit by outage for thousands worldwide,” posted one cybersecurity analyst.

Another user queried Microsoft directly: “Is Microsoft Teams having issues?” prompting an official response confirming the investigation.
