Microsoft Teams New Option Let IT admins Run 60-second Silent Test Call

Microsoft has announced a new proactive network monitoring capability for Teams administrators, introducing 60-second silent test calls designed to assess network quality without disrupting user experiences.

The feature represents a significant advancement in enterprise communication infrastructure management.

Key Takeaways
1.  IT admins can run automated 60-second test calls.
2. Auto-rolls out mid-September 2025.
3. Teams Premium license needed; works only on idle Windows/Mac desktop clients.

New “Silent Test Call” Functionality

The silent test call functionality operates through synthetic Microsoft Teams call simulations that target specific network subnets, enabling IT administrators to conduct comprehensive network readiness assessments.

These automated tests execute seamlessly in the background of the Teams client application, running for precisely 60 seconds while maintaining complete user transparency.

Key technical specifications include deployment exclusively on Teams for Windows desktop and Teams for Mac desktop platforms, with the system intelligently scheduling tests only when devices remain idle and users are not engaged in active Teams calls.

The feature requires Teams Premium licenses on user devices, ensuring enterprise-grade functionality while maintaining Microsoft’s tiered service model.

The silent nature of these tests means users experience zero disruption—no notifications, audio alerts, or visible interface changes occur during the monitoring process.

This background subnet-specific testing allows administrators to proactively identify potential network bottlenecks, latency issues, or connectivity problems before they impact actual user communications.

Rollout Timeline

Microsoft has established a phased deployment schedule beginning September 2025. Targeted Release customers will receive access in early September, with completion expected by mid-September 2025.

General Availability (Worldwide) will commence mid-September 2025, concluding by late September.

The rollout process requires no preliminary administrative action, as the feature will be automatically enabled by default across eligible environments.

However, Microsoft recommends that IT administrators review their current network configurations to assess potential organizational impact and prepare relevant documentation updates.

Organizations should consider integrating these proactive network monitoring capabilities into their operational routines to maximize the feature’s diagnostic value.

By establishing regular silent test call schedules, IT teams can develop baseline network performance metrics and implement early warning systems for communication infrastructure issues.
