New Mexico Filed Lawsuit Against Google for Spying & Collecting Personal Data From School Students

We all know very well that the procedure of the tech giant Google for collecting personal data is really weird and not only that even Google has been criticized several times for this type of action.

Hence, for this type of action recently, the Attorney General of New Mexico, Hector Balderas, has filed a lawsuit against the tech giant Google.

As the Attorney General of New Mexico, Hector Balderas has claimed that Google has been spying on millions of children and their families without their consent.

Now many of you might be thinking that why? Simply collect their personal data which includes, “websites they visit, results in they click on, physical location, videos they watch on YouTube, what they look for in the Google, their personal contact, voice recordings, and much more.” 

It means that Google simply has access to all our personal data present on Android smartphones or the Chrome browser.

Moreover, if you don’t know, then let me clarify that the tech giant Google simply gives its G Suite along with Google Chromebook laptop computers for free to the school districts across New Mexico.

While apart from these things, the G Suite includes Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and other important services of Google.

Basically, federal law simply forbids companies from collecting these types of data from the children or students who are under 13 without parental permission.

Collecting Data From Students Who are Under 13

While in the lawsuit, the Attorney General of New Mexico, Hector Balderas has clearly stated that the tech giant Google simply uses its products and services to collect valuable personal data of the students who are under 13 without their parents’ consent and often needed by their schools to use these services.

Here’s what the Attorney General of New Mexico, Hector Balderas has stated in Lawsuit “student safety should be the first and utmost priority of any company that is providing services to our children, especially in schools. As tracking student data without parental consent is not only illegal; it is even dangerous as well.”

However, the tech giant Google has precisely stated that schools have total control over privacy, so they have full control over the data and thus block someone from accessing it. Moreover,

Hector Balderas also wrote a letter to the tech giant Google’s CEO, Mr. Sundar Pichai asking that the company should immediately terminate the practice of this type of action.

In addition to filing the suit, Attorney General Balderas has communicated with schools across New Mexico and let them know that there is no immediate harm to the continued use of these products and that this lawsuit should not interrupt daily instruction in our schools. 

Apart from all these things, the Attorney General of New Mexico, Hector Balderas has already communicated with the schools across New Mexico and informed them to not panic, as there will be no immediate harm on the continued use of these Google products. Hence, this lawsuit will not interfere with the daily school curriculum.
