CISA to Discontinue Cybersecurity Alerts & Advisories on Official Webpages

CISA to remove standard cybersecurity alerts and advisories from its website. On May 12, 2025, CISA announced it would no longer post routine cybersecurity updates to its “Cybersecurity Alerts & Advisories” webpage, instead shifting to distribution exclusively through social media platforms and email subscriptions.

Under the planned changes, the webpage would be reserved solely for “urgent information tied to emerging threats or major cyber activity”.

“CISA wants this critical information to get the attention it deserves and ensure it is easier to find,” the agency stated in its original announcement.

The announcement immediately triggered concern throughout the cybersecurity community.

The proposed changes would have disrupted numerous critical services that security teams rely on for threat intelligence, including:

  • The KEV Catalog JSON and CSV data feeds
  • RSS feeds for various advisories
  • GitHub repositories containing vulnerability data
  • The centralized web-based alert system

Of particular concern was the directive for users who track the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog through RSS feeds to “subscribe to the KEV subscription topic through GovDelivery to continue receiving notifications”.

The KEV catalog, launched in 2021, has become an essential resource for defenders tracking actively exploited vulnerabilities in the wild.

Security professionals said moving essential threat data behind subscription models and social media platforms could hinder visibility, particularly for smaller organizations lacking dedicated threat intelligence resources.

By May 13, just one day after the initial announcement, CISA acknowledged the confusion and announced a pause to reassess its approach.

CISA’s KEV catalog and associated data feeds have been integrated into numerous security workflows and automation tools through formats like CSAF (Common Security Advisory Framework), making any disruption potentially significant for security operations.
