Recently, the Taiwanese hardware merchant QNAP asked all its customers last week to update their firmware and apps installed on their network-attached storage (NAS) devices to circumvent infections with a new twist of ransomware that was named as AgeLocker.
But, it has been observed after research that no unpatched vulnerability was determined to be exploited in the management of the AgeLocker ransomware attack. That’s why all the known interested QNAP NAS Devices are working in their older unpatched QNAP device firmware, which claimed to be updated.
The AgeLocker Ransomware target QNAP NAS, Linux, and macOS devices, where this new ransomware strives to encrypt all the files of victims by utilizing the “Age” encryption tool.
The QNAP Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) has uncovered all the evidence that the ransomware may attack the earlier versions of Photo Station. That’s why the experts said that they are investigating the case again and will publish all the extra information soon.
At the end of August, the AgeLocker has started targetting QNAP NAS devices and encrypting their files. However, one of the victims has uploaded an encrypted file to ID Ransomware, the cybersecurity experts have determined that the file was encrypted with the help of Age encryption.
Moreover, the cybersecurity experts have confirmed that the AgeLocker had picked up in movement towards the end of August as they proceeded to target the QNAP devices all over the world.
The cybersecurity experts have suggested some recommendations so that the users can secure their devices and protect all their data from ill-disposed ransomware attacks and illegal access.
Apart from this, the security experts investigated the whole matter and declared that they would soon update further information regarding the Ransomware attack. The experts also affirmed that every user must follow the recommendations and steps that have been provided by them.
